The main areas of the Capital Region include: Washington DC: Obamamania has taken hold so be part of this moment in history and get the feeling of being close to presidential power in the White House. Visit the famous sites including Capitol Hill, National Mall, Lincoln Memorial, and Washington Monument. Spend some time at the Smithsonian Institute, the world's largest collection of museums and art galleries. You could spend a week here and still not see it all! To get around hop on the Metro or take a water taxi from Georgetown to the historic port of Alexandria with its old town cobbled streets and artists at work.
Cross into Virginia and enter a different world. The geographical diversity makes the area truly special with some of the finest mountainous scenery in the world screaming at you to get out and explore! There are amazing hikes and cycle routes throughout the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Skyline Drive is not to be missed. The panoramic views are breathtaking as you curve through the mountains overlooking the Shenandoah Valley with the Appalachians in the distance. In the Autumn see the spectacular colour of the Fall Foliage in the Shenandoah Valley. Wildlife is abundant with bald eagles, white-tailed deer and you may even see a cute black bear cub munching away happily at the road side. Baltimore & Chesapeake Bay: Fashionably retro Baltimore is just an hour from Washington and has a host of things to see and do. Fell Point is lined with old warehouses converted into stylish shops, restaurants and bars. On the historic waterfront you can visit the fully rigged USS Constellation or explore a Second World War submarine. Annapolis is the sailing capital of the US, has more than 20 art galleries and is home to the US Naval Academy.
Williamsburg : No trip to the Capital Region is complete without spending some time in the Williamsburg area known as the historic triangle.
